Weekend/Evening College financial aid makes getting your degree affordable
Earning your degree is more than just a major time and personal commitment — it’s also a financial obligation that can be difficult to meet for many students.
That’s why Weekend/Evening College Financial Aid advisors are here to help you with every step of your financial aid strategy. And as with all things in life, planning is critical — applying for and receiving financial aid requires advance work on your part – but here is a step-by-step process to ensure your financial aid process goes smoothly.
Step 1: FAFSA
You may apply for financial aid at the same time you apply for admission to the Weekend/Evening College at Mount Saint Mary’s University. Apply for financial aid by completing the 2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1.
- Create a FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov.
- Complete the FAFSA, Use MSMU's School Code: 001243 so that we may receive your information electronically.
Step 2: Weekend / Evening Aid Request Form
All Weekend/Evening applicants must complete an Aid Request Form. Financial Aid will not be awarded until this form is submitted.
Step 3: Cal Grant
If you are a California Resident, you may apply for a Cal Grant by submitting a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. The Cal Grant application deadline is March 2nd. For more information, please call the California Student Aid Commission at (888) CA-Grant or visit their website at www.csac.ca.gov.
Step 4: Explore Scholarships and Grants
Other options to help cover your costs for Weekend/Evening College are scholarships and grants.
Students are also encouraged to research the availability of outside scholarships from corporations, clubs, business, or professional organizations. However, watch for scams. In most cases, scholarships that require a fee, especially a substantial one, are scams. Unless you are certain that the organization is legitimate, you should never pay a fee to apply for a scholarship.
Here is a sample of outside resources:
- Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU)
- College Board Scholarship Finder
- Financial Aid Opportunities for Minority Students
- Student Savings
- University Tutor (Scholarship Contest)
- Sallie Mae Free Scholarship Search Tool
- U.S. Department of Education
