Pursuing our minor is simple
Requirements for the Ethnic Studies Minor
For successful completion of the Ethnic Studies Minor, students must take a total of 18 units as follows:
Required Courses: 9 units must be derived from the following three required courses:
- ENS 10/ENS 110 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies) or SOC 141 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies and Critical Theory) - 3 units
- ENS 20/ENS 120 (Race and Ethnicity) or PHI 171 (Philosophy of Race) - 3 units
- ENS 15/ENS 115 (Intersectionality and Power) - 3 units
Electives*: 9 Upper Division units (3 courses) derived from any of the following content areas/electives:
- ENS 130 Filipina/o American Experience and Narratives (3 units)
- ENS 135 Conflicts and Collaborations in Los Angeles (3 units)
- ENS 150 Colonization and Empire (3 units)
- ENS 155 Latinx Studies (3 units)
- ENS 160 Black Studies (3 units)
- ENS 165 Indigenous Studies (3 units)
- ENS 170 Special Topics in Ethnic Studies (3 units, may be repeated for credit)
- Elective Offerings from Other Departments
- PSY 167 Special Topics: Asian American Psychology (3 units)
- FLM 168 Race, Sex, and Hollywood (3 units)
