The pursuit of a life in music can take many paths – performer, educator, composer, administrator, entrepreneur and more. Regardless of the career you seek, the Department of Music at MSMU is dedicated to providing outstanding music instruction through our progressive curriculum, enabling students to realize their full potentials in the development of their musical, artistic and career goals.
The Music Department at MSMU is situated in the heart of one of the most vibrant and diverse musical communities on earth. Our location in Los Angeles translates to virtually unlimited access to music in all its forms.
We offer a Bachelor of Arts in music (B.A.) with emphases in music performance (keyboard, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar, and percussion), music education (single subject high-school certification), music history, music industry, and music therapy.
Our accomplished faculty provide and model musical and academic excellence while mentoring students in a creative environment that enhances the cultural, artistic, and intellectual life of the university and community.
Core music classes are taught in a supportive environment with a student/ faculty ratio that allows for greater student involvement.
Music majors receive weekly 60-minute private lessons in their applied area.
Students of all majors choose to perform with The Mount Chorus, The Mount Singers, The Bridge Orchestra, or Chamber Ensemble. Students may also enroll in private lessons.
The Music Department at MSMU rewards your talents and achievements. Each year we award full tuition scholarships to new and returning music majors. Other generous award amounts are available to qualified students including ensemble merit awards.
I welcome the opportunity to share with you more of the exciting, unique opportunities available to students who desire to pursue studies in music at the Mount.
