More than 1,000 students across both campuses helped to celebrate the start of Mount Saint Mary's 2015-2016 school year - and the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the University's 90th anniversary.

Welcome Week celebrates the start of the Mount's 90th year!

Mount Saint Mary's University welcomed more than 1,000 students to its campuses for the start of the 2015-2016 school year, including all programs throughout the University. This year's Welcome Week activities came with special significance; they marked the beginning of the Mount's yearlong celebration of its 90th anniversary in Los Angeles.

Welcome Week kicked off during the Aug. 22-23 Move-In Weekend for residents, which also featured on-campus commuter retreats. At Chalon, Athenians enjoyed a Game Day, an AtheNEON Night workout dance party and a birthday celebration for the Mount. At Doheny, activities included Social Palooza, a Yoga & Yogurt evening and house room blessings.

Both campuses hosted orientation group reunions for first-year students, as well as movie nights, Athenian cafes and welcome mass. Women's Leadership, Nursing and Campus Ministry were among the programs and departments that put on retreats or boot campus. Student-led clubs and associations also started gearing up.

In the midst of all the activity, the Mount enjoyed a moment to pause and reflect on the impact of its 90-year history. On Aug. 28, the Los Angeles City Council, led by Councilmembers Mike Bonin and Gilbert Cedillo, honored Mount Saint Mary's with an official City proclamation. The proclamation concluded with the resolution:

"The Los Angeles City Council recognizes and congratulates Mount Saint Mary's University for their 90th anniversary of exemplary work in educating the future leaders of our great city, state and country. Your work has been a pillar to so many women and girls, and we wish you continued success."

Moving into Week Two of the school year, the Mount hosted Student Involvement Fairs, STEM Spirit Week, and the beginning of club activities and community service opportunities. Weekend/Evening College and Graduate Division classes started Aug. 29. And the University's traditional community-gathering Mass of the Holy Spirit will take place Sept. 17 at Doheny and Sept. 22 at Chalon.
