Mount Gives Back During Inaugural Events

April 24, 2012 -- The College celebrated the inauguration of its 12th President Ann McElaney-Johnson with a series of events in March, including the president’s Invitation to Serve Day which brought hundreds of Mount community members together to help greater Los Angeles.

The March 31 day of service sent Mount students, faculty, staff and friends to pack food, plant trees, garden and paint at such organizations as Kids Against Hunger, St. Joseph Center, the Korean Youth Community Center, Alexandria House Frank D. Lanterman High School, Heal the Bay, Los Angeles Mission, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Midnight Mission. The day began with breakfast in front of Our Lady of Mercy Chapel on the College’s Doheny Campus and wrapped up in the afternoon

On March 20, McElaney-Johnson hosted a St. Joseph of Carondelet Appreciation Reception in honor of the founders of the Mount, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who continue to contribute to the College in countless ways. McElaney-Johnson paid special tribute to sisters celebrating 60 years: Sr. Louise Bernstein, Sr. Annette Bower, Sr. Joseph Adele Edwards (in memoriam), Sr. Catherine Marie Kreta, Sr. Rose Adrian Peukert and Sr. Dolores Cecile Schembri; and to those sisters celebrating 50 years: Sr. Carol Brong, Sr. Janet Duffy, Sr. Lois Anne Linenberger and Sr. Nancy Munro.
