An American Classic: Bricia Lopez '06

For Bricia Lopez '06, the restaurant Guelaguetza in Los Angeles is more than just the family business. It's where she grew up. Four years after she and her sibling took over the operations, Lopez has taken L.A.'s Oaxacan culinary landmark to new heights.  

This summer, Guelaguetza was named an American Classic by the prestigious James Beard Foundation. The restaurant is one of only five in the nation to receive that honor this year, bestowed upon dining establishments that have timeless appeal and are beloved by their hometown communities. This fall, Lopez herself was honored with a "Latinos de Hoy" award, presented by the Los Angeles Times and Hoy.
