Admitted students get a first-hand, up-close look at 'Life at the Mount'
Mount St. Mary’s Office of Admissions welcomed nearly 1,500 people to both College campuses this spring, for its annual Admitted Students Day events.
On Sunday, April 7, nearly 300 high school seniors visited the Chalon Campus, along with members of their family. Current Mount St. Mary’s students, faculty and staff spoke with prospective new students, sharing their experiences at the College. Student clubs, academic departments and on-campus organizations provided entertainment and information.
“My experience at the Mount has been nothing short of life-changing,” Katrina Hernandez ’14, a nursing major, told a crowd of accepted high school students at the Chalon Campus. “From the first day that I started, I was welcomed with open arms by not only the staff and faculty, but also the students.”
On Sunday, April 27, another 200 admitted students toured the Doheny Campus with their parents and friends. Students, faculty and staff members again served as panelists, speakers and entertainers during the event, and hosted a Student Resource Fair to showcase the College’s offerings.
“If you’re looking for a college where you can fall through the cracks, this is not the place for you,” President Ann McElaney-Johnson said to those touring the Doheny Campus. “Our faculty will believe in you and follow you every step of the way.”
Admitted Students Day events take place each spring at the Mount, and provide prospective students with a chance to learn first-hand about life at the College. In addition to tours, dinners and special events, admitted students also have the chance to spend the night in campus dorms.
After her tour, incoming freshman Patricia Pedro said the visit had strengthened her desire to attend Mount St. Mary’s. “I’m coming to the Mount,” she said, “because when you walk on the campus, you feel like you’re right at home.”
