William Huddleston

Biography

William Thomas Huddleston holds a Master of Science in Operations Research and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California. His undergraduate engineering degree was completed at Northrup Institute of Technology in Los Angeles California. The Project Management Institute (PMI) certified him as a Project Management Professional (PMP)

Mr. Huddleston held several adjunct teaching positions in California and Maryland. He was a Professor of Mathematics and Engineering, a Professor of Project and Operations Management, and currently is a Professor of Project Management (PM) at Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) in the MBA Program and Weekend College. He established a PM concentration within the MBA program at MSMU and co-authored a series of copyrighted lectures in PM. The lecture series, in addition to meeting the academic requirement for an MBA, provides the opportunity for MBA students to receive PM professional certification by the PMI. Mr. Huddleston is currently pursuing Global Academic Center (GAC) accreditation for the PM portion of the MBA program through the PMI. He established the Research Associate for Project Management Concentration Program, a voluntary program conceived to provide MSMU Alumni the opportunity to support faculty PM initiatives and gain professional experience. He holds a lifetime teaching credential issued by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.

He serves as Faculty Advisor to MBA Capstone Projects and Title V (minority) coaching/ mentoring at MSMU. He received peer recognition at MSMU for his contribution to developing the PM concentration lecture series and support to the MBA program. Mr. Huddleston retired from a Federal Government career extending over 30 years where he functioned as a design engineer, project/program manager, and program executive for the Department of Defense, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). During his Federal Government career he was awarded a Naval Weapon Center fellowship, two NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal’s, an Astronaut Achievement Award, and was inducted into his High School Hall of Fame.

During his NASA tenure he directed the development and mission operation of 13 Astrophysics, Earth Science, Solar Physics science missions for the Agency manifested on expendable rockets and the Space Shuttle with budget responsibilities in excess of $1B dollars.

He was instrumental in creating the IMAX movie “Destiny in Space” by manifesting the IMAX camera on a Space Shuttle astrophysics payload deployed from the Space Shuttle. This mission resulted in the first IMAX image of the Space Shuttle from orbit. He directed a live astronomy “Lesson from Space” given by the astronauts to middle school students on the East and West coast as an integral component of his primary astrophysics science mission aboard the Space Shuttle.
