Julius Reder Carlson is an (ethno)musicologist, classical guitarist, and an active participant in the LA music community.
Julius’ academic specialties include the role of music in the political life of 20th-century Argentina and 19th-century Prussia. He has conducted research in Argentina and Germany with the support of the Fulbright-Hays and the DAAD.
In addition to his academic work, Julius has performed internationally as a soloist and accompanist and is a contributor to the album Tenemos las mismas manos, winner of a 2016 Chilean Pulsar award.
He is the co-founder of the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, a nonprofit organization geared towards low-income and underrepresented youth, and a regular lecturer at the Le Salon de Musiques chamber music series.
