Biography
Sara Canning is an avid orchestral musician and freelancer in Los Angeles. She currently holds the principal clarinet positions in the Stockton Symphony and the Santa Monica Symphony. She has previously held the principal clarinet position with the Tucson Symphony and the second clarinet position Reno Chamber Orchestra. Sara has also performed with many orchestras throughout California including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Opera, New West Symphony, San Diego Symphony and the Santa Barbara Symphony among many others. Sara served as the teaching assistant for the clarinet studio at UCLA from 2010 – 2012. In 2013, Sara won first prize in the International Clarinet Association Orchestral Excerpt competition which was held in Assisi, Italy. In 2011, her woodwind quintet was a finalist in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition. Sara holds degrees from UCLA (MM, 2012) and the University of North Texas (BM, 2009). Her teachers include Burt Hara, Yehuda Gilad, Boris Allakhverdyan, Monica Kaenzig, Gary Gray and Dr. James Gillespie.
