Each year Mount Saint Mary’s hosts the Women’s Leadership Conference to bring women together to connect, learn from each other and get inspired to take action in their own lives and their communities. This year’s event, held Saturday, Sept. 21, was a huge success, starting off with a welcome from Emerald Archer, director of the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary’s. The daylong event featured sessions and workshops focused on financial literacy, male allies in the workplace, what’s next after the #metoo movement, networking opportunities and time to connect with speakers.
Keynote speaker Joanna Bloor, introduction expert and founder of the Amplify Lab and Ladybadass is on a mission to get people to talk about themselves in a new way. “When you allow the negative voice in your head to take over, it diminishes y our authenticity,” she said. Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD, author of “The How of Happiness” and “The Myths of Happiness,” shared insights from her research about which people are the happiest and how they interact in the world. When asked about the best piece of advice she gives other women, Lyubomirsky said, “Find work that you love or that you are good at or that contributes to the world – and ideally all three.”
