Dr. Surjeet Baidwan, PhD/JD, has joined Mount Saint Mary’s University as the new Director of the MBA Program. In his role, Dr. Baidwan will provide strategic direction for the program while identifying new opportunities for expansion.
Dr. Baidwan was Chair of the Sports and Entertainment Management program at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, before joining the Mount. He also held numerous positions at Universal Music and Warner Music Group, overseeing large scale celebrity appearances and national marketing campaigns. He is still an active researcher, helping businesses better understand consumer behavior in tourism and entertainment.
As the new MBA Director, Dr. Baidwan plans to use his background in entertainment to grow the program. “As an entertainment industry veteran, I know how valuable the MBA degree is. It’s a degree that helps both creatives and business professionals better navigate the business side of show business,” he said. “That’s why we’re partnering more with industry, bringing alumni working in media back to mentor students, and reaching across campus to find synergies. One initiative I’m particularly excited about is working with the film school to launch a new dual MBA/MFA degree in the future.”
Dr. Baidwan was inspired to work at Mount Saint Mary’s because of the University’s strong commitment to helping a diverse student population. “Having just worked at a historically black university, I was looking for another place where my work could have a real impact,” he said. “It was a huge draw to work at the Mount because of the transformative work we do for such a diverse group of people.”
Dr. Baidwan holds a PhD in Hospitality Administration from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, a JD degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, and an MBA degree from Pepperdine University.
