Study Film at Mount Saint Mary’s Hollywood Studio
Located at our MSMU studio in Hollywood, the MFA and certificate programs in film at Mount Saint Mary’s University provide students with all of the essential skills to create and produce professional films and build a body of work that demonstrates their abilities in each aspect of the creative and technical process in a professional studio setting.
The centerpiece of the department’s curriculum is to encourage collaborative film-making, innovative thinking, and a critical, hands-on understanding of new technologies while using the latest equipment. Our students also work on real projects with modern equipment and experienced professors. All of our film programs provide students with the opportunity to connect with Industry professionals, pursue their specializations and discover their distinct voice. By the time they graduate, students will have built a body of work that demonstrates their creative and technical abilities.
About our Programs
The MFA in Film and Television Program was successfully launched in 2014. Since then, the graduate film program has launched a new MFA in Producing for Film and Television, two dual-degree options with an MBA, and six certificate programs in film. These programs give students the opportunity to direct and crew on many projects all the while being mentored by experienced filmmakers. Students are encouraged to take risks and experiment in a safe and nurturing atmosphere. Aesthetics and theory are incorporated into the curriculum so students can understand the context and influence of film history and apply it to their own work.
The unique environment of the MSMU programs allow students to learn all aspects of filmmaking - proposal writing, pre-production, research, shooting, sound, editing, outreach, fundraising - and therefore discover and develop their specific talents and skills. Students make long lasting contacts with a peer group and cohort of colleagues that will continue to support them as they launch their film careers.
