iPad Trainings Held on 1/20 and 1/21 at MSMU

Mount Saint Mary's Education Department recently hosted two training sessions on the use of iPads in K-12 classrooms. The sessions - held on Friday evening (1/20) and Saturday morning (1/21) - were led by Mount alum Amanda Allen and her colleague David Lopez, both teachers at St. Genevieve Elementary School in Panorama City. Ms. Allen and Mr. Lopez started a successful 1-to-1 iPad program at their school site, which was recently named an Apple Distinguished School. They spoke with participants about what it took to get their program off the ground, and how they have navigated various challenges along the way. After a brief introduction to how iPads work, they showed participants a variety of apps that can be used with students of all ages, explaining how iPads or other hand-held devices can be an invaluable pedagogical supplement to any classroom.

Ms. Allen and Mr. Lopez have presented their work with iPads at the CUE (Computer Using Educators) Conference, and will be presenting at both CUE and the ISTE (International Society of Technology Educators) Conference this year. Ms. Allen is currently an adjunct at MSMU, teaching EDU 205: Technology for Educators (a hybrid-online course).
