Application Requirements
Students who wish to apply to the Preliminary Single Subject Credential program must submit the following application requirements.

Academic Advisement Session+-

In addition to submitting a full application, prospective applicants must meet with the program’s faculty director prior to admission to determine scholarship eligibility and ensure alignment of professional goals with program of interest.

All applicants must submit an online Graduate Application.

Application Essay+-

All applicants are required to submit an application essay. You may upload it to your online application or submit it at a later time as an attachment via email to graddocs@msmu.edu.
Essay Prompt: Please write a 2-3 page, double-spaced essay about a current problem or issue in education that is important to you. Describe the issue and a possible solution. Include information about your background, interests, and aspirations as they relate to the issue you are addressing.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae+-

Please outline your educational and professional experiences, including any relevant research and experiences. You may upload it to your online application or submit it at a later time as an attachment via email to graddocs@msmu.edu.

Transcripts+-

All applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and post-secondary institutions attended.
Important: Transcripts must be issued and sent directly from the institution to the Graduate Admission Office in order for them to be considered official. Copies of transcripts mailed or hand-delivered by applicants will be considered unofficial.
Official transcripts may be sent to Mount Saint Mary’s University in one of two ways:

Please instruct your institution to submit secure, electronically-delivered transcript to graddocs@msmu.edu.
Unofficial transcripts can be accepted for admission review purposes. If admitted, students must submit official transcripts by the time class registration opens for the following semester to ensure continuance in the program. Scanned, unofficial copies can be sent via email to graddocs@msmu.edu.
International Transcript Credential Evaluation
Transcripts from international institutions must be evaluated by a professional agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (https://www.naces.org/members). Evaluations must indicate the type of degree received, the U.S. equivalency of the degree, the date the degree was conferred, and a cumulative grade point average based on the U.S. equivalent 4.0 scale.

Letters of Recommendation+-

Two (2) letters of recommendation are required from academic or non-academic sources. Your recommenders will receive a link inviting them to upload their letters of recommendation after you enter their information on the online application. Alternatively, your recommenders can send their letters as an attachment via email to graddocs@msmu.edu. Recommenders should comment on an applicant’s ability to perform in the program’s required coursework and potential to succeed in graduate school, in general.
Please Note: The MSMU Graduate Admission Office policy is that unless the recommender has been notified in advance that the student has not waived their right to view the letter, all letters of recommendation are held confidential and a copy may not be provided to the student by the university.

Basic Skills Requirement (BSR)+-

All applicants must meet the basic skills requirement at the time of application in order to be considered for admission. An education department advisor can assist in determining if you have met this requirement based on coursework, standardized exams, or passing the CBEST exam. The signed BSR form should be sent via email to graddocs@msmu.edu

Subject Matter Requirement (SMR)+-

All applicants must submit the subject matter requirement worksheet at the time of application in order to be considered for admission. An education department advisor can assist in determining if you have met this requirement based on your undergraduate degree, coursework, and/or CSET subtests taken. Please note that a full analysis of coursework may take up to one semester to complete. Thus, it may be recommended that you take one or more CSET subtests in the interim.

Tuberculosis (TB) Test+-

All applicants must submit a copy of TB test results taken within the last 2 years. A copy of TB test results can be sent as a scanned copy via email to graddocs@msmu.edu.

Certificate of Clearance+-

A certificate of clearance (C of C) is required for students enrolled in our educator preparation program. The certificate of clearance is issued by the CTCC. For information on how to obtain a certificate clearance, please click here.
Applicants may send a copy of the actual certificate or email confirmation from the CTCC indicating receipt of the certificate via email to graddocs@msmu.edu.

Candidate Disposition Statement+-

Each applicant must sign and date a Candidate Disposition Statement. The statement and dispositions can be reviewed and submitted electronically here.
GRE
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is NOT required.
