Welcome to our Induction Program! We are excited to offer three possibilities for clearing your multiple subjects, single subject or special education credential.

For new teachers, you can clear your credential in your first two years of teaching via our two-year, 7 unit program. This program involves weekend seminar sessions, some of which are hybrid online. These courses take place on six weekend mornings per semester from 8:00AM to 10:15AM.

For experienced teachers, you can clear your credential via our accelerated one-year, 5.5-unit program. This program involves weekend seminar sessions, some of which are hybrid online. These courses take place on six Saturday mornings per semester from 8:00AM to 12:25PM. This program is available to teachers who have completed two years of full-time teaching and are considered exceptional teachers by their principals.

+Master of Science in Education – Instructional Leadership or Individually Designed Program

You may also choose to complete your clear credential work concurrently with a Master of Science in Education degree for experienced teachers (30 units total).

Depending upon your work history and interests, you may choose to enroll in our Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Leadership (for teacher leaders) or tailor your own educational path with our Individually Designed Program option. An advisor can help you determine which master’s emphasis and course plan is right for you. Four (4) graduate units completed as part of the Induction Program would count towards any of the two master’s program.

Admission to the master’s programs requires a separate application and additional application requirements.  Make an appointment with an advisor to learn more. Call 213-477-2620.

Please note that the Induction Program to Clear Credential is a job-embedded program that focuses on mentoring and support. You must be employed as a teacher in order to complete the Induction program.

As a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) approved Program, Mount Saint Mary’s University is able to recommend you for the California Clear Credential upon completion of the program.

*The Preliminary and Induction Teacher Preparation Programs meet the standards for and have been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), leading to a California Preliminary or Clear Teaching Credential.  Students who wish to practice in a state other than California will have additional licensing requirements to complete prior to practicing in a state outside of California. Mount Saint Mary’s University is in the process of researching program professional licensure standards in other states.
