Our Education and Teacher Credentialing programs at Mount Saint Mary’s University are founded on a commitment to social justice, inclusiveness, and leadership. We develop and empower teachers at every stage of their careers by providing them with academic and professional guidance throughout the credentialing process. Our program also helps prepare students to be competent, confident and successful teachers from the very first moment they step into their classroom.
Our students also benefit from small, intimate classes, dynamic classroom conversations and readily-accessible faculty. Our diverse faculty members challenge our students to grow as future leaders and educators. Assignments are timely, relevant, and geared towards the professional development of our students.
Prospective students can earn a Master of Science in Education degree along with any of our credential programs below:

Are You Currently Teaching in a Private School?
If you are currently teaching in a private school setting, you do not need to leave your position to earn a credential.
Courses are offered in the evenings and faculty will work with you to minimize the time needed away from your classroom to observe and learn from exemplary teachers in TK-12 schools. For your final supervised teaching, we can supervise you in your own classroom if the credential you are seeking matches your teaching assignment.
Meet with a faculty advisor in the education department for more information.

*The Preliminary and Induction Teacher Preparation Programs meet the standards for and have been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), leading to a California Preliminary or Clear Teaching Credential. Students who wish to practice in a state other than California will have additional licensing requirements to complete prior to practicing in a state outside of California. Prior to enrollment, prospective students must review the Preliminary Teaching Preparation Programs professional licensure webpage to determine whether this program meets the educational requirements in a specific state. Once this information has been reviewed, contact the Education department at email@example.com to discuss the process of obtaining a teaching or cleared credential in a state outside of California.
