Our Community

In our community, students, faculty, and alumni are equal parts of a greater whole. Upon entering our program, you’ll connect with alumni and faculty who have a genuine passion for students. In a big city like Los Angeles, it’s hard to find relationships as real as the ones you’ll find at the Mount.

Our alumni are extremely active, coming back regularly to engage our students and to offer networking and mentorship support. This deep connection between alumni and students is a hallmark of our MBA Community and one that offers tremendous value.

Another highlight of our community is the quality of our faculty. In 20 months, you’ll learn from dozens of industry experts who take an active, hands-on approach to learning. While our faculty members are diverse, they all share three commonalities: solid academic credentials, significant business experience, and a passion for helping students.

Student Stories – James Nomus

James is an international student from the Philippines who lives on our beautiful campus in Downtown Los Angeles. James has a heart of gold with aspirations to start his own business to transform the lives of children with special needs.

James was recently honored as our first-ever Christopher Edward Turner Memorial Scholarship winner. Presented “in recognition of courage and dedication in facing obstacles unique to international students," this award is a well-deserved achievement presented to one our most kind and caring students.

Faculty Stories – Dr. Lester Reams, JD, DPA

Dr. Reams is a So-Cal native, proud husband to a local physician, and dedicated father of two. He joined our MBA community in 2016 and teaches several classes in statistics and data analysis. Dr. Reams is also our ACBSP Accreditation champion and faculty co-advisor for our prestigious MBA honor society: Delta Mu Delta.

Dr. Reams is passionate about social advocacy and played a major role in designating the 4th Thursday in March as “Tuskegee Airman Day” in California. Dr. Reams is highly regarded for his quick wit and razor sharp mind. In class, Dr. Reams is the type of professor that will challenge you to dream big while making you crack up and smile.

Alumni Testimonials

After I earned my MBA, I transitioned from a job as a staff accountant to a new job managing an international division’s accounting and financial team. This increased my salary by 40 percent! The MBA program also helped me shape my thinking process. I am now a "big-picture" thinker. I used to be a one-subject-matter expert, but now I often find myself involved in cross-functional teams. I’ve rediscovered the importance of education and life-long learning, and have found a new passion in motivating employees to grow and develop themselves.

The MSMU MBA program was a challenging and rewarding experience - challenging in the way that it allowed me to think creatively, strategically, and outside-of-the-box and rewarding in the sense that I met so many passionate, driven, and intelligent colleagues, who have ultimately become my family. The MBA program has expanded my way of thinking and performing in both my personal and professional life; it has truly taught and prepared me to become a leader in the competitive business environment by providing me with the skills, knowledge, and applicable experiences to transform teams and perform quickly and effectively in a rapidly evolving world.

- Arnel Abeleda, MBA ’17
Project Manager
Farmers Insurance Group

The information I’ve learned in the program has proven to be invaluable. I’ve gained much more awareness of global business. I’ve become focused on change and the impacts of change. Although I’ve had a successful career, I find myself wishing I’d had the insights I’ve gained in the MBA program when I was growing my company so many years ago.

- Philip Houghtaling, MBA ’16

The MSMU MBA program has enabled me to see how external factors impact the realm in which businesses operate. The program is unique because it provides the experience to learn directly from industry professionals.
