Our core work is publishing comprehensive, cutting-edge data to empower you to advocate on behalf of women and girls in your community. The Center produces annual reports, policy briefs, evaluations and white papers available here in our resource library.
First issued in 2012, The Report on the Status of Women & Girls in California™ is the most authoritative and comprehensive compilation of current research focusing on the issues and trends affecting the nearly 20 million women and girls who call California home. The Report's analysis includes demographics, educational attainment, employment and earnings, poverty, media, business leadership, political representation, physical and mental health, violence and veterans.
To cite original research, we offer a companion anthology to The Report on the Status of Women & Girls in California™, called Collectif. Named as a reference to Mount Saint Mary’s roots in Le Puy, France, this collection highlights white papers and essays created by Mount Saint Mary's faculty, alumni and students.
The Center has developed focused research reports for nonprofits, foundations, corporations and government agencies. We also have created A Guide to Using U.S. Census Data for community members interested in preparing their own localized reports.
The Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary’s University is a hub for gender equity research, advocacy and leadership development. Our vision is to find solutions to persistent gender inequities and work with partners to eradicate them in our lifetime. Your support makes our work possible.
Data is useless if it sits on a shelf. When put to use, data is an effective tool to both educate and spur action. We want to ensure you have both the data and tools needed to advocate on behalf of women and girls in California.
Take Action. Below are four simple ways to start making a difference.

Founded in 2004 by Academy Award®-winning actor and advocate Geena Davis, with administrative and financial support from Mount Saint Mary’s University, the Institute is the only research-driven organization collaborating with the media and entertainment industry to expose gender imbalance, identify unconscious bias, and creatively remodel content to achieve gender equity. Annually, the Institute contributes research findings to The Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California™ and Collectif, in addition to creating educational opportunities for Mount Saint Mary’s undergraduate and MFA programs.
