The English, math, and foreign language placement exams are used to determine appropriate coursework for incoming students. Taking the placement exams prior to being advised allows you and your advisor to determine an accurate schedule. Failure to take the placement exams before registering for classes may result in a last minute change in your class schedule.
During the placement exam day, you will take the English and math exams. If your degree program is a bachelor’s of arts (BA), then you will also take one of the foreign language exams. We offer Spanish, French, or Japanese. If your degree program is a bachelor’s of science (BS), you are not required to take the foreign language exam. Please note that you must sign up for the foreign language exam separately from the English and math exams.
Register and check for available dates through your MSMU student portal. If you have questions, please call the LRC at (213) 477-2690.
