How to Apply to the Honors Program
How to Apply as Incoming Freshmen/Transfer Students:
Students applying to Mount Saint Mary’s University as incoming traditional undergraduate freshmen or transfer students in pursuit of their baccalaureate degrees can apply to the Honors Program through the Common Application or for transfer BSN students, through the MSMU Online Application. These prospective Honors Scholars interested in applying to the Honors Program must complete a supplemental “Honors Program” essay question in the Common Application or MSMU Online Application (for BSN transfer students).
Upon admittance to Mount Saint Mary’s University, applications which contain the required supplemental “Honors Program” essay will be reviewed. In consideration for admittance into the Honors Program, these students must have earned a cumulative 3.5 GPA during high school and or a cumulative 3.5 GPA during all college courses.
If you are a transfer student and you have completed less than 24 transferrable units, please know that your official high school transcript and official SAT or ACT test scores will also be used for evaluation into the Honors Program.
All components of prospective Honors Scholars’ Common Application or MSMU Online Application (for BSN transfer students), including their official transcripts, official SAT or ACT test scores, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and co-curricular or extracurricular involvement, may be reviewed for admittance consideration. Upon admittance to Mount Saint Mary’s University and the Honors Program, students will receive the recognition of “Honors at Entrance” and will be invited to participate upon starting their first year at the Mount.
Transferring in Honors Courses in the Mount Saint Mary’s University Honors Curriculum:
If you are a transfer student and have completed honors courses from previous accredited colleges or universities that are members of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) or Western Regional Honors Council (WRHC), you may submit a request to the Director of the Honors Program for transfer equivalency consideration for up to 6 units in the Mount Saint Mary’s University Honors Curriculum, only after admitted into the Honors Program at Mount Saint Mary’s University. These honors courses must be first transferable units into the University and then will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for equivalency in the Honors Program.
How to Apply as Current Mount Saint Mary’s University Students
Current traditional undergraduate Mount Saint Mary’s University students interested in applying to the Honors Program must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and must ordinarily apply by the end of their sophomore standing year.
