Information on the 2021 commencement will be available soon

2021 Commencement Updates

February 26, 2021

As President McElaney-Johnson’s email on February 18 indicated, we continue to monitor the public health landscape to determine what we are able to do for Commencement 2021. We expect guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health in mid to late March, which will inform us on what we can provide for our students.

Two of the most frequently asked questions we have received are around academic garb and photos on campus.

Academic Regalia:

Academic regalia may be ordered directly from Jostens through the Chalon and Doheny bookstore websites. Full pricing and information is available on those sites, and items will be shipped directly to your homes.

Photos on Campus:

We are waiting for further guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for when we might be able to allow students on campus for photography. If this activity is allowed, we will let you know when you might be able to schedule time to take photographs on campus.

We appreciate your patience as we explore all possibilities to honor the Class of 2021 graduates, and we will send out further communications as we receive new public health guidance. We will also post updated information on the Commencement web page.

We look forward to honoring the many accomplishments of our graduates.

February 18, 2021 - President's Message to Students

Dear Students,

While COVID-19 infections in Los Angeles County have been declining recently, they still remain high, and LA County has some of the strictest restrictions on in-person gatherings in the nation. Based on what experts are saying at this time, widespread vaccinations will not be achieved in California until summer, and even then, there may still be social distancing and other health measures in place.

As we continue to monitor the public health landscape, we are asking for your patience as we explore all possibilities to honor the Class of 2021 graduates. We expect to make a final decision on what commencement will look like by mid-March, and will send out another communication at that time, as well as post updated information on the Commencement web page.

We are so proud of our Mount Saint Mary’s students. We know how hard it has been to navigate the many challenges you have experienced over the past year, and balance school and family commitments. Commencement is a time of celebration, and regardless of how we celebrate you, we will still come together as a community to honor your achievements.

Warmest wishes,

Ann McElaney-Johnson
