Following the Footsteps of our Founders
CSJ Heritage Tours led by President Ann McElaney-Johnson
Each year several members of the Mount Saint Mary’s University community participate in our pilgrimage to France to explore the foundations of our heritage. Led by President Ann McElaney-Johnson, Mount Trustees, faculty, staff, alumnae, sisters and friends join together for 10 days to immerse ourselves in the historic sites of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
We begin in the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy, before heading to Le Puy, France, where, in 1650, six women formed the first community of the Sisters of St. Joseph. We then visit the sites of Mother St. John Fontbonne, who re-founded the sisters after the French Revolution. Our journey brings us to her hometown of Bas-en-Basset and several small towns in the region, before our final stop in Lyon, where she is buried. Along the way we meet many CSJs from France and around the world.
