Roy Adaptation Model

During her master’s work from 1964 to 1966, Sr. Callista Roy began to develop the Roy Adaptation Model. She was responding to her teacher’s motivating question of defining the goal of nursing. Considering the goal of nursing as promoting adaptation provided the stimulus to develop a framework that looks at people and groups as having abilities to deal with changes in the environment. However, with the help of nurses who understand people and their environments their adaptations can move effectively toward health.
