Maria Narvaez, Interim Director. Maria earned a BA in Psychology from Smith College and a MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from CSU Dominguez Hills. She brings extensive experience with research and strategic planning from the Long Beach Community College District, where she worked for 15 years, most recently as a Planning Systems Analyst. While at Long Beach, Maria contributed to three accreditation self-studies, the development of two Educational Master Plans, and cyclical departmental planning/program review processes. In addition, she has served as a graphic designer for a statewide research organization and as a research consultant for the California Math and Science Project.
Maria-Pia Sotomayor, Research Analyst. Pia earned her BA in Sociology with a minor in Economics from Loyola Marymount University and her MA in Social Sciences and Comparative Education with an emphasis in Race and Ethnic Studies within Higher Education from UCLA. She brings with her years of research experience within the public and private sectors, performing institutional research and market research for various companies and institutions. Pia previously worked in a community college district as a Research Associate. She contributed and lead various districtwide surveys, as well as providing analysis for districtwide policy and curriculum implementation. Most recently, Pia worked for a nationally renowned market research firm collecting, conducting, and analyzing surveys for Fortune 500 companies’ brand, business and market strategic planning.
Kristina Yawn, Research Analyst. Kristina earned her BA in Political Science with an emphasis on empirical theory and quantitative methods from UC Berkeley. She brings with her years of research experience within the corporate and non-profit sectors, performing market research and competitive analysis for various companies and organizations. Most recently, Kristina worked as a senior manager for a research firm performing primary research, competitive intelligence and product development for top companies
Araceli Hernandez, Research Assistant. Over the past four years she has helped Institutional Planning and Research with numerous projects as she continues her education through Mount Saint Mary’s University.
Student and contract workers also help the IPR Office meet the college's information and research needs.
