Maria Narvaez, Director of Institutional Planning and Research. Maria earned her BA in Psychology from Smith College and her MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from CSU Dominguez Hills. She brings extensive experience with research and strategic planning from the Long Beach Community College District, where she worked for 15 years and contributed to three accreditation self-studies, the development of two Educational Master Plans, and cyclical departmental planning/program review processes. She joined MSMU in 2016 and currently serves as a member of the WSCUC Accreditation Steering Committee and the Retention Committee, and co-chairs the University Data Committee and the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee.
Maria-Pia Sotomayor, Research Analyst. Pia earned her BA in Sociology with a minor in Economics from Loyola Marymount University and her MA in Social Sciences and Comparative Education with an emphasis in Race and Ethnic Studies within Higher Education from UCLA. She brings with her years of research experience within the public and private sectors, performing institutional research and market research for various companies and institutions. She joined MSMU in 2017 and works on a wide range of projects including, but not limited to, survey planning and analysis, higher ed research, data dashboards and visualizations, and institutional planning, evaluation, and reporting. In addition to working on special projects, such as the Space Utilization Study, she currently serves on the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee.
Kristina Yawn, Research Analyst. Kristina earned her BA in Political Science with an emphasis on empirical theory and quantitative methods from UC Berkeley. She brings with her years of research experience within the corporate and non-profit sectors, performing market research and competitive analysis. She joined MSMU in 2018 and works on a wide range of data projects, including reports, surveys, original research, data dashboards, and visualizations. She currently serves on the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, the Program Review Committee and the Academic Assessment Committee.
