Students Say 'Thank You' to Fathers, Father Figures

Nov. 21, 2005 -- About 35 students at the downtown Doheny Campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University said thank you to their fathers and father figures – uncles, cousins, brothers – at the College’s annual Father-Daughter Dance on Nov. 18.

For $25 a couple, students and male role models enjoy an evening of dinner and dancing in the Pompeian Room of the historic Doheny Mansion, No. 8 Chester Place. During dinner, students and their fathers and father figures took turns talking about what the other means to them.

The young women said thank you. The men told the young women they love them and are proud of them. To celebrate the occasion, a disc jockey played dance music well into the night.

“To see those men dance and see them cry when they talk about these young ladies is just a wonderful, wonderful thing,” said Maria Lyons, director of Student Activities for the Doheny Campus. “We hope the students see this as a chance to say, ‘thank you.’”

The Student Activities Office on the Doheny Campus also hosts a Mother Daughter Tea every April.
