MSMU Announces Guaranteed Admission for Qualified Santa Monica College Students
Dec. 8, 2008 -- Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) and Santa Monica College (SMC) are partnering to provide new guaranteed transfer paths for students pursuing traditional four-year college degrees as well as master's degrees in nursing.
Two agreements to be signed by the colleges at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Mount St. Mary's Chalon Campus spell out new opportunities for SMC students who meet certain requirements to transfer to MSMU. SMC students may either enroll in MSMU's traditional undergraduate programs or in the Mount's Associate Degree in Nursing-to-Master's Degree in Nursing (ADN to MSN) program. The guaranteed admission agreements come at a time when the California Community College system is forging new partnerships to maximize graduates' opportunities to complete higher degrees.
The Mount's ADN-to-MSN program allows nurses with an ADN to achieve a bachelor's and a master's degree in as little as 2-1/2 years, and gives a student the option of becoming a nursing instructor. "Mount Saint Mary’s University is excited about partnering with Santa Monica College in providing educational options for their graduates," says Eleanor Siebert, MSMU provost and academic vice president. "These transfer-articulation agreements will assist students in planning for a smooth transition and to achieve their degree goals in a timely fashion."
"Santa Monica College is committed to expanding opportunities for our students, and Mount Saint Mary’s University continues to be a strong partner," says Jeff Shimizu, SMC vice president of academic affairs. "The Associate Degree (ADN) to Master's Degree (MSN) in nursing and the traditional undergraduate transfer program will be a desirable option for our graduates to continue their education."
