Mount's Child Development Center Provides Free Meals

May 23, 2007 -- The Child Development Center at Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles, provides free meals to preschoolers whose families meet income eligibility guidelines.

The center, located in the historic West Adams district, receives funding for food from the California Department of Education Nutrition Services Division, Child and Adult Care Food Program. Children in a family of four qualify for free or reduced price meals if the family's gross annual income does not exceed $26,000. Children who receive CalWORKs funds, as well as those from households receiving food stamps, are automatically eligible for free meals.

The center offers a nutritionally-balanced breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack.
The center serves 74 children ranging in age from 18 months to 5 years, and offers full-day childcare for preschool children. It is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, please contact the center at (213) 477-2977.

Families participating in the center's funded program are either working fulltime or participating in job training programs. If families do not meet criteria for the funded program, spaces are available for tuition-paying families.
