Mount to Honor Kathleen H. Aikenhead at September Gala
June 24, 2009 -- Mount Saint Mary’s University and its Regents Council will honor Kathleen Hannon Aikenhead, president of the William H. Hannon Foundation, during a magical night of dinner, dance and special festivities on Sept. 26. All proceeds from the evening – A Midsummer Night's Dream -- will benefit the College's Student Ambassador program, which steers high school students toward college.
Aikenhead, who lives in Pacific Palisades, is the niece of William H. Hannon, a real estate developer and philanthropist who began the William H. Hannon Foundation. Through three decades, the foundation has supported nursing and general academic scholarships at Mount Saint Mary’s University, as well the creation of Hannon Parlor, a multipurpose event and meeting facility on the Chalon Campus in Brentwood. Most recently, the foundation gave a major gift to the College to fund the renovation of the newly-named William H. Hannon Theater at Chalon.
"Mount Saint Mary’s University would like to thank Kathy Aikenhead for her many contributions to enhancing our two campuses," says College President Jacqueline Powers Doud. "We are always so pleased to have Kathy at the Mount to participate in the life of the campus community."
The event's master of ceremonies will be the Rev. Monsignor Clement J. Connolly, a College trustee since 2003. Born in Ireland, Connolly was ordained to the priesthood in 1964 and has been pastor of Holy Family Church in South Pasadena since 1984. Connolly was an elected member of the Priest Pension Board of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 1994 to 2001. The gala will be held on the College's downtown Doheny Campus.
