Mount Saint Mary’s University welcomes new provost Dr. Wendy J. McCredie
Aug. 8, 2013 — Dr. Wendy J. McCredie is the new provost and vice president for academic affairs for Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles.
McCredie most recently served as acting provost and associate dean for academic affairs at Mount Mary, another women's college in Milwaukee, Wis. Previously, she was at Texas Lutheran University, where she served as faculty, French program director, English department chair and director of the school's Center for Women's Studies.
A native of New Zealand, McCredie has lived in Australia, France and many parts of the United States, picking up four languages along the way. She earned her bachelor's degree in literature from Yale University, as well as a master's in French and a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Texas at Austin.
"Women's education has always been important to me," she says. "So this is a great joy for me to come here now, and to become part of the growth Mount St. Mary's is so well poised to make."
McCredie says she was first drawn to Mount Saint Mary’s University by its ongoing commitment to its founding mission.
"Those leadership and service components that derive from the College's founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet are so important," she says. "The giving back, the sense that your education is not just to benefit you, but is to benefit your family, your community and, ultimately, the world."
McCredie takes over following the June retirement of former Provost and Academic Vice President Eleanor D. Siebert, who concluded a 39-year full-time career as a member of Mount St. Mary's faculty and administration.
