Mount Saint Mary’s University Expands Downtown Campus With Purchase of St. Vincent Church Parking Lot
Dec. 17, 2010 -- Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles has purchased the St. Vincent de Paul Church parking lot adjacent to its downtown Doheny Campus to meet the future needs of the campus while preserving the historic nature of the West Adams Boulevard neighborhood.
The lot purchase maintains the Catholic identity of the neighborhood, which includes the College, church, St. Vincent School and Stimson House, owned by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. "This acquisition will have a long-term beneficial impact on the entire neighborhood," says College President Jacqueline Powers Doud. "We do not have current plans to build on the lot. The College will continue to use the land for parking."
The College plans to make the lot available for St. Vincent parishioners attending liturgical services and other official church functions. This purchase, along with the College's acquisition of 745 W. Adams Blvd. in 2009, increases the size of the Mount's Doheny Campus by more than 15 percent.
