College Names New Nursing Chair
The Mount is pleased to announce that Mary Wickman '74, a nurse with 30 years of experience and an alumna of the college, has accepted the position of chair of the Department of Nursing. Her appointment was effective Jan. 3, 2005.
Wickman, who earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mount St. Mary’s in 1974 and her master’s and PhD from UCLA, brings a strong background in maternal-child nursing to the job. She has been a staff nurse and nursing coordinator at hospitals around the country, and is currently a Navy nurse and captain in the Naval Reserves.
“I have always appreciated the excellent education I received at the Mount. This education provided a strong foundation on which to build my profession and provided the skills I needed to be successful,” Wickman said.
Wickman arrives at the college during a time of large-scale expansion in the college’s associate, baccalaureate, and accelerated nursing degree programs. “The Department of Nursing at Mount St. Mary’s has responded creatively to meet community healthcare needs during the current nursing shortage,” she said. “It is wonderful to be a part of that growth.”
